8/8/2019 0 Comments August 08th, 2019Students will be asked to keep a Reading Log for the year. Here's a little bit more about what this entails:
Homework this year will consist mostly of Reading Logs (click to access a printable document). Students will be asked to read outside of class for a minimum of 120 minutes a week. They may--of course--read more! The purpose of this is to better prepare them for high school, where they will have much more homework, and where homework will make up a much higher percentage of their grade. Moreover, reading improves lexile scores, which means that not only will they develop better habits by doing their reading each week, but they will increase their ability to read higher level texts that await them as they advance through their studies in high school and beyond. It is of extreme importance that students are held accountable for this time; thus, I’ve included a parent signature on the Reading Log for you to sign each day that they read. Students are asked to read 120 minutes a week, for an average of 20 minutes a day (with one day off). Consistent reading after school over time dramatically improves academic performance.
